October gathering

It was such a delight to catch with do many old friends and new at our WWTAG catchup yesterday. Here is a glimpse of some of the work on show.

A6 Group project

Image
Our group project for 2020 has been along the lines of a postcard swap.  Over the year those participating have been creating A6 textile art panels for each participating group member.  Some people are working to themes, others are using the opportunity for experimentation, but each panel reflects the artist and the textile work they like to do. In November we will be exchanging our contributions and each recipient will combine the panels into a textile piece – maybe a fabric journal, a quilt, collage for example.  Take a sneak peak of some of the work completed to date ... August Show 'n' Tell

It was wonderful to catch up with 9 of our Wild Women via Zoom yesterday.  Even for those who have temporarily lost their creative mojo, keeping in touch means a lot.   Colour was the predominate theme of our Show 'n' Tell session Going clockwise from top left: Leona's fitted felted vest, Hilary's scrumble, Maggie's scrappy bits journal page, and Helen's baby ball. Hillary also sent through this beautiful set of gift bags for our #wwtaggiftbag challenge

Challenges & activities

Image
One of the things that we love about WWTAG is the way that ideas and themes carry through long after we run an activity at our monthly meetings.  Hilary took the fabric collage panels she had created from the scrap pile during out January meeting and created another of her fabulous fiddle quilts. Heather took some of the painted fabric we created back in November to make this lovely shopping bag   For those who can't get to our meetings we have our regular challenge themes which we feature on Instagram.  Our first challenge for 2020 is painting on fabric. It can be a free hand portrait, still life or landscape. Or perhaps an experiment in using different brushes or techniques.  We are posting our photos on Instagram using the hashtag #wwtagfreeneasy - Christine and Hilary have started things off with a lovely bag and t-shirt

January Show 'n' Tell

Image
Our January Show 'n' Tell was all about colour and Texture.  Hilary combined some of our WWTAG painted calico with hessian and twine to make this wonderful clutch bag, and followed up with a cheerful glasses & phone case. She also used some of the silk paper froom our October workshop to make this inspirations notebook Margret used felt cutouts, ric rac and braid to create this striking, bold Moroccan tile and finished up with this stunning button shibori piece using Thai silk
